On October 26, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, along with Finnish string virtuosos Minna Pensola and Antti Tikkanen (duo Tiksola), will take the stage at the large hall of the Tallinn School of Music and Ballet (MUBA) for a public concert. The musicians will perform Dvořák’s romantic and brightly sounding “Serenade” along with a selection of contemporary Finnish classical music.
The celebration of Kaija Saariaho’s birthday month continues with one of her most famous works, “Terra memoria”, which was also a part of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra’s program in late August at the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm. There, the orchestra’s performance received positive reviews from Swedish media.
“We are happy to perform this piece again benefiting from the excellent acoustics of the MUBA hall. This time the performance is especially exciting for us because Minna and Antti worked closely with Saariaho and have performed a lot of her music,” said Tallinn Chamber Orchestra’s executive producer Kaido Kelder.
The concert will also feature “Wiima”, a composition by Finnish conductor, violinist, and composer Jaakko Kuusisto, who had a close connection with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra before his passing two years ago.
“Jaakko was one of the most interesting creators and trailblazers of his generation in both Finnish and international music life. He had a long-standing collaboration with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra as a guest conductor. We have performed together in both Estonia and Finland, with our last concert being five years ago at the Naantali Music Festival, where one of the highlights was the premiere of Jaakko’s cello concerto,” added the orchestra’s executive producer.
Dvořák’s “Serenade”, to be performed at the concert, is a beloved piece in the string orchestra repertoire, cherished for its beautiful melodies and bright sonorities.
